Ace Environmental Services was awarded the contract for the management and operation of the Grantville Landfill, Transfer Station and Resource Recovery in March 2009.
An integral part of the operation is recovery of the following materials for recycling and minimising waste to landfill:
- Ferrous and non ferrous metals
- Car bodies and caravans
- Comingled recyclables, including glass - bottles, jars, most other types of glass, plastic - bottles and containers with codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7
- Paper and cardboard - newspaper, office paper, cardboard
- Fluorescent light globes and tubes
- Used motor oil
- Batteries - vehicle and truck batteries
- Tyres - truck, bike and car . Green waste (hard and soft) and timber pellets, for mulching
Recycling activities are undertaken by staff at the tip face on a daily basis, with the aid of mobile plant and equipment, which maximize the recovery of recyclable commodities and minimize the volume of material going to landfill which in turn will extend the life of the landfill cell. A resale shop area has been established for the sale of preloved goods and household bric-a-brac.
