Project: Morson Water Pump Station Bypass
Location: Horsham VIC
Client: Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water
Contract Value: $400,000
Project Manager: Luke Biltris
Completion date: September 2009

The Morson Water Pump Station feeds water to Horsham from Mount Zero in the Grampians. The construction of a bypass eliminated the need for another water pump station to supply treated water to Natimuk (25 km west of Horsham). Water pressures in the Horsham system have since improved and the town water supply options increased. Working in a relatively remote location four hours from Melbourne required ACE to be resourceful in sourcing contractors and materials. Works involved:

  • Hot tapping of various water mains to ensure uninterrupted water supply to residents and industry
  • Construction of a 600mm mild steel cement lined (MSCL) bypass line and flow meter from Mount Zero
  • Construction of a 300mm PVC branched line from the new MSCL line through a concrete pressure reducing station and flow meter. This connected into another MSCL pipe that was cut into live

The integration of the Bypass with the larger Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project (WMPP) was contingent upon its timely completion and ACE successfully delivered on time.
