Riversdale Golf Club Damper Creek management works have
been initiated to transform poorly maintained unused Damper
Creek banks to provide additional fairway areas surrounded
by a lake. The Lake was created by damming Damper Creek at
a location. The old bridge connecting the 18th Tee to the
fairway was replaced with a new structure built right along
the dam.
Scope of construction works of this project:
Clearing & Removal of vegetation
Removal of old bridge structure
Over 13000 cubic meters of Earthworks in
cut and fill
Ground stabilization
Creating and Shaping of earth mounds
Construction of Clay filled dam
Sheet piling curtain wall construction
Precast concrete piling
Construction of overflow structures and installation
of flow control gear
Construction of new concrete bridge Structure
Over 1000 cubic meters of Rock beaching for
flood protection
Gabion wall placement to protect existing
services in the flood plain
Concrete and timber retaining wall structures
This project was a challenging work for ACE as the works
have to be carried out within the accepted time frame and the stringent
working and environmental protection conditions imposed
by both the Client and Melbourne Water. The project had to be
carried out and completed during the Winter period when ground
was completely soggy and the flow of the creek was at its
peak. Creek diversion had to be done carefully, not only
to prevent any flooding upstream, but also to avoid any
contamination of water flow by construction works. Before any earthworks
were carried out the excavation area was stabilized
in order to support the heavy machinery required to carry out earthworks.
Construction of the bridge structure was also difficult, as
the ground did not support the heavy equipment required
to drive piles for curtain walls and bridge foundations.
