Project: High Voltage Substation
Location: Laverton VIC
Client: Alex Fraser Group
Contract Value: $600,000
Project Manager: Randhir Kumar
Completion date: June 2009

As part of upgrading the crushing plant at their Laverton Site, Alex Fraser Group opted to receive High Voltage Power supply to meet the additional power requirements. The agreement between Powercor and Alex Fraser group is for a 73A supply at 22KV via a HV overhead line off Alex Fraser Drive. The 22KV supply is received at an indoor switchroom called Alex Fraser 22KV Switchroom, owned and operated by Alex Fraser Group located off Alex Fraser Drive. The switchroom houses the 22KV switchgear comprising Energy Retailer metering equipment.
The High Voltage System consists of 3x22KV feeders originating from the switchroom namely:

  • 1) Feeder No.1, supplying a 300KVA Kiosk Transformer “T1” for the Office and Workshop and a 500KVA Kiosk Transformer “T2” supplying the screening plant and the Pug mill.
  • 2) Feeder No. 2, supplying 2 x 1500KVA Transformers, “T3” and “T4” located at the new crushing plant. There is a 22KV switchroom located at the crushing plant housing a Ring Main Unit (RMU). This RMU is used to split the 22KV supply to transformers T3 and T4
  • Other internal works comprising heavy duty pavements, a new bus depot and loading docks, internal roads and coloured pavements, landscaping, road and parking signage, line-marking, and installation of electrical and irrigation conduits
  • 3) Feeder No. 3, Spare Feeder for Future Upgrades

The project was delivered ahead of time, within budget and of a quality that surpassed the related power utility company’s compliance officer’s expectations
