Cobar 66KV Regulator Substation

The 66kV feeder, which originates from the Nyngan 132kV zone substation, had limited capacity primarily due to the voltage level at the Cobar town zone substation being affected by voltage regulation on the 132kV and 66kV networks, and the high and low loading periods.

In addition, the 66kV supply to Cobar town zone substation was constrained by voltage regulation and conductor ground line clearance violations, both of which adversely affect supply capacity.

A new regulator and upgrade of the 66kV feeder was required to maintain the 66kV voltage level at Cobar at an acceptable level during high and low loading periods, and to rectify the violations of the

66kV feeder.

Ace Electrical was appointed as the head contractor for this contract.

Ace Electrical was involved in the following scope of works:

  • Design, supply and install new transportable type control building
  • All civil works for the new substation site including switchyard surfacing
  • Supply and install New switchyard high security fence
  • Supply and installation of all underground cable pits, conduits, ducts.
  • All foundations and foots for switchgear support structures and regulator
  • Installation of site wide earthing system
  • Installation of all HV and LV power and control cables
  • Assembly and erection of all electrical equipment and accessories in the switchyard
  • Installation of overhead strung and rigid busbars
  • Testing of all works ready for commissioning by Essential Energy
