The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Project involved the construction of a new 140-bed facility with a mental health unit and an intensive intervention unit. John Holland engaged ACE as the Head Works contractor to undertake the construction of key infrastructure from the project site to the final connection and discharge points. The total works area spanned across 10 kilometres of varying terrain, requiring the engagement of several key stakeholders. The project was successfully delivered through peak COVID on time and on budget.
ACE’s scope of works included:
- 2 km of HV conduits
- 5km of water
- 7km of sewer + Pumpstation and Barometric Loop
- 2 km of comms
Notable portions of work involve:
- 8m deep mass excavation for the pumpstation substructures
- Construction of 2-3m trenches over a kilometre in rocky terrain for the installation of communications and HV, sewer and water assets
- Working in a secure facility to complete the outfall and pressure loop in Melbourne Water land
- Strict Environmental zones and controls across entire project
- Completing three 150 m trenchless freeway crossings beneath the Princes Freeway, involving complex stakeholder management, protection of critical gas, petroleum, water, and communications services, and execution of night works to minimise disruption
