As part of Victoria’s Big Build, ACE successfully delivered the high-profile St Kilda Road Bike Lanes Project, heavily improving safety along Melbourne’s busiest cycling corridor. The major infrastructure upgrade focused on protecting the 3,500 daily cyclists from vehicle door zones and collisions. ACE’s comprehensive scope crossed two major sections between Linlithgow Avenue and Dorcas Street, and Toorak Road West to Charnwood Road reallocating road space to build protected kerbside bicycle lanes on the outer carriageways. The project was delivered collaboratively with MRPV under the PDA model.
The complex civil package involved constructing new concrete kerb separators, widening Shared Use Path (SUP) crossings, resurfacing bicycle lanes, and installing a signalised bicycle crossing at the intricate St Kilda Junction intersection. To accommodate the new layout, ACE removed kerb outstands, reconstructed road pavements, modified traffic signals, and reprogrammed road safety cameras. Throughout delivery, ACE managed extensive community liaison, traffic control, and landscaping, maintaining seamless access for pedestrians, cyclists, local businesses, and residents.
